In thinking about ancient foragers, modern models loom large.

 

고대의 수렵 채집인에 관해 생각할 때, 현대의 모델이 크게 다가온다. 

 

They are a lens through which the remains of ancient lives have been interpreted.

 

그것들은 고대인의 삶이 남긴 유적을 해석해 온 매개가 된 렌즈이다. 

 

This poses a methodological problem, for ancient and modern foragers are profoundly different.

 

이것은 방법론적인 문제를 제기하는데, 왜냐하면 고대와 현대의 수렵 채집인은 매우 다르기 때문이다. 

 

Despite these differences, we can use modern data to answer important questions about ancient lives.

 

이런 차이에도 불구하고, 우리는 현대의 자료를 이용하여 고대인의 삶에 관한 중요한 질문에 답할 수 있다. 

 

In favorable cases, we can correct for the differences between ancient and modern foraging worlds.

 

순조로울 경우에 우리는 고대와 현대의 수렵 채집 세계 사이의 차이를 보정할 수 있다. 

 

In particular, in considering the cooperative foraging model of human life history, modern data offer a conservative test.

 

특히, 인류의 생활사의 협력 수렵 채집 모델을 고려할 때, 현대의 자료는 ‘보수적인 검사’를 제공한다. 

 

The ancient-to-modern transition would tend to reduce the significance of a class of important features of ancient forager lifeways, ones that make cooperation more important.

 

고대에서 현대로의 전환은 고대의 수렵 채집인의 생활 방식이 가지는 한 부류의 중요한 특징, 즉 협력을 더 중요한 것으로 만드는 특징의 중요성을 줄이는 경향이 있곤 했다. 

 

So if we still find those features playing a role in the lives of modern foragers, we can reasonably project them back onto the lives of ancient foragers.

그래서 우리가 그런 특징들이 여전히 현대의 수렵 채집인의 삶에서 역할을 하고 있다는 것을 알게 된다면, 우리는 당연히 그것을 고대 수렵 채집인의 삶에 다시 투영할 수 있다.
