In the case of China and Eastern Europe, it is clear that market liberalization has helped a lot.

중국과 동유럽의 경우에 시장 자유화가 많은 도움이 되었다는 것은 명확하다. 

 

 

Until about 1998, the East European privatization process and the implementation of a market economy progressed in fits and starts due to all sorts of political maneuvers.

약 1998년까지 동유럽의 민영화 과정과 시장 경제의 실행은 온갖 종류의 정치적 조치 때문에 단속적으로 진행되었다. 

 

But by 1998 the region was characterized by a strong private sector and relatively free markets.

하지만 1998년 즈음에 그 지역은 강력한 민간 부문과 비교적 자유로운 시장의 특징을 나타냈다. 

 

This triggered an economic boom.

이것은 경제적 호황을 유발했다. 

 

Nevertheless, this cannot be the whole story.

그럼에도 불구하고, 이것이 모든 경우에 적용되는 이야기일 수는 없다. 

 

Latin America is also free but - except some short-lived episodes - has been historically characterized by slow economic growth.

In addition, that region has a relatively high birth rate.
