The Springbok emblem was wom by South African national sporting teams throughout most of the 20th century.

스프링복 문양은 남아공 국가대표팀들에 의해 거의 20세기 내내 패용되었다. 

 

It continues to be worn by the South African national rugby team today, known universally as the Springboks.

이것은 세계적으로 스프링복스라고 알려져 있는 남아공 국가대표 럭비팀에 의해 오늘날에도 계속 패용되고 있다. 

 

The designation began on South Africa’s first rugby tour to the British Isles in 1906.

이 명칭은 1906년 남아공 럭비팀이 최초로 영국제도로 원정경기를 떠나면서 (사용되기) 시작했다.

 

Team captain Paul Roos coined the term to prevent the British press from inventing one for them.

팀의 주장인 Paul Roos는 영국 언론이 자기네들을 (임의로) 부르는 말을 만들어 내지 못하도록 하기 위해 그 명칭을 고안해냈다. 

 

The 1906 Springboks were highly successful, winning nearly all their matches including Wales, the top British Isles nation at the time.

1906년의 스프링복스들은 매우 성공적이어서 그 당시 영국제도의 최강팀인 웨일즈와의 경기를 포함하여 거의 모든 경기를 이겼다.

 

Thereafter, South Africa’s national sporting teams wore the emblem until the 1990s.

그 이후로 남아공 국가대표팀들은 그 문양을 1990년대까지 패용하였다. 

 

The Springbok emblem proved to be highly divisive as national sporting teams were limited to the white minority population until the 1980s.

스프링복 문양은 대표팀들의 문호가 1980년대까지 소수의 백인 국민들에게만 국한되었기 때문에 큰 불화의 상징임이 확인되었다.

 

For white South Africans, the emblem was a symbol of pride and national sporting power.

백인 남아공 국민들에게는 그 문양이 자부심과 국가적 스포츠 권력의 상징이었다.
