It is time that often plays a crucial and defining role in environmental economics.

 

환경 경제학에서 흔히 결정적이고 본질적인 의미를 규정하는 역할을 하는 것은 바로 시간이다. 

 

Traditional economics can determine efficient ways to allocate resources for producing goods and services.

 

전통 경제학은 재화와 서비스를 생산하기 위해 자원을 배분하는 효율적인 방법을 결정할 수 있다. 

 

The allocation is, however, simplified and confined to a single period of time with the underlying presumption that the production of an additional unit of a commodity today does not prevent producing one tomorrow.

 

그러나, 그 배분은 오늘 상품을 추가로 한 개 더 생산하는 것이 내일 한 개 생산할 것을 저해하지 않는다는 근본적인 가정과 함께 단순화되고 하나의 시기로 한정된다. 

 

In the case of many environmental goods, allocation of resources over a long period is critical.

 

많은 환경 재화의 경우, 장기간에 걸친 자원의 배분이 매우 중요하다. 

 

For example, while burning fossil fuels and polluting the environment today, we may be creating problems for future generations for years or forever.

 

예를 들어, 오늘 화석 연료를 연소시켜 환경을 오염 시키면서 우리는 미래 세대들에게 몇 년간 또는 영원히 지속될 문제를 만들어 내고 있는 것일지도 모른다. 

 

Similarly, if we harvest all prawns today, the supply will be gone forever.

 

이와 유사하게, 만약 우리가 오늘 모든 새우를 잡아 들인다면 공급은 영원히 사라지게 될 것이다. 

 

Our consumption decisions of some environmental goods may be ‘irreversible’ and may have a profound impact on the well-being of future generations.

 

일부 환경 재화에 대한 우리의 소비 결정은 ‘되돌릴 수 없는’지도 모르며 미래 세대의 복지에 엄청난 영향을 미칠지도 모른다.
