Many convenience stores are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

많은 편의점이 1년 365일, 하루 24시간 문을 연다. 

 

Since they never lock their doors, why do they bother to install doors with locks on them?

문을 잠가 놓을 일이 없는데, 그들은 왜 자물쇠가 달린 문을 설치하느라 애를 쓸까? 

 

It is always possible, of course, that an emergency could force such a store to close at least briefly.

물론, 긴급한 상황으로 가게를 적어도 잠시라도 닫아야 할 가능성이 언제나 있다. 

 

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, for example, residents of New Orleans were forced to evacuate with little notice.

예를 들어, 허리케인 카트리나의 여파로 뉴올리언스 주민들은 예고도 거의 없이 대피해야 했다.

 

But even if the possibility of closing could be ruled out with certainty, it is doubtful that a store would find it advantageous to purchase doors without locks.

그러나 문을 잠가야 할 가능성이 확실히 배제된다 할지라도, 가게 입장에서 자물쇠 없는 문을 구입하는 게 유리하다고 생각할지는 의심스럽다. 

 

The vast majority of industrial doors are sold to establishments that are not open twenty-four hours a day.

절대 다수의 산업용 문은 하루 24시간 열지는 않는 시설들에 판매된다. 

 

These establishments have obvious reasons for wanting locks on their doors.

이러한 시설들은 문에 자물쇠가 필요한 분명한 이유가 있다. 

 

 

So, given that most industrial doors are sold with locks, it is probably cheaper to make all doors the same way.

따라서 대부분의 산업용 문이 자물쇠를 갖추고 판매되는 것을 감안하면, 모든 문을 같은 방식으로 만드는 것이 아마도 비용이 더 적게 들  것이다.
