비교급 뒤 주어 동사는 선택적 도치가 가능합니다.

앞에 어떤 동사가 쓰였는지에 따라 뒤에 동사도 맞춰줘야 합니다.

앞에 possess 일반동사가 쓰였기 때문에

At any given time, the experts in a society determine the nature of current understanding.

 

어느 시대나 한 사회의 전문가들이 (그 시대에) 통용되고 있는 이해의 본질을 결정한다. 

 

One who understood physics in Aristotle’s time applied a different body of principles in a different way from one who understood physics in a Newtonian age, and the breakthroughs associated with relativity theory and quantum mechanics have brought about further alterations in the contemporary understanding of the physical world.

 

아리스토텔레스 시대에 물리학을 이해한 사람은 뉴턴 시대에 물리학을 이해한 사람과는 다른 방식으로 다수의 다양한 원리를 적용했고, 상대성 이론 및 양자역학과 관련된 획기적 발전은 물질계에 대한 현대의 이해에 더 많은 변화를 가져왔다.
