[ 한줄해석 ] 

 

 

 

Humanity’s shared evolutionary history means that all human bodies are alike, and so too are all human minds; Dylan Evans calls this the psychological unity of humankind.

 

인류가 공유한 진화의 역사는 모든 인간의 신체가 비슷하며 모든 인간의 마음 역시 그러하다는 것을 의미하는데 Dylan Evans는 이것을 ‘인류의 심리적 통일성’이라고 부른다. 

 

Not only are the six basic emotions universal, they are also instinctual and innate biological responses over which we have little conscious control.

 

여섯 가지 기본적인 감정은 보편적일 뿐만 아니라 우리가 의식적으로 거의 통제할 수 없는 본능적이고 선천적인 생물학적 반응이다. 

 

This means that we are hard-wired to respond to certain stimuli in certain ways.

 

이는 우리가 특정한 자극에 대해 특정한 방식으로 반응하도록 타고났다는 의미이다. 

 

Our brains automatically appraise our experiences as they occur and create emotional responses to correspond with that unconscious appraisal.

 

우리 뇌는 경험이 발생할 때 자동으로 그 경험을 평가하며 그 무의식적인 평가에 부합하는 감정적 반응을 만들어낸다. 

 

This means that these emotional responses occur without us having thought about them.

 

이는 이러한 감정적 반응이 우리가 그것에 대해 생각해 보지 않은 채 발생한다는 것을 의미한다. 

 

Paul Ekman talks about autoappraisers, the automatic appraisal mechanisms which occur unconsciously in response to visual, auditory and sensory triggers, and create the physiological responses we call emotions.

 

Paul Ekman은 ‘자동평가사’에 관하여 이야기하는데, 그것은 시각적, 청각적, 감각적 자극에 대한 반응으로 무의식적으로 발생하여, 우리가 감정이라고 부르는 생리적 반응을 만들어내는 자동 평가 기제이다. 

 

Basically this means that when confronted by something which we find threatening, humans unconsciously respond in particular physical and emotional ways.

 

기본적으로 이는 우리가 위협적이라고 생각하는 무언가를 마주칠 때, 인간들이 무의식적으로 특정한 신체적, 감정적 방식으로 반응한다는 것을 의미한다. 

 

The sensations we experience as anger are the physiological preparations the body makes in order to protect itself.

 

우리가 분노로서 경험하는 느낌은 신체가 자신을 보호하기 위해 만들어내는 생리학적 준비 과정이다.
